Create a Fun, Fall Scrapbook

I love the cooler temperatures, when the leaves begin to change colors, drinking hot cocoa and making homemade soups. There is just something cozy about this time of year. What better way to capture the joy of fall than to create a fun, fall scrapbook. A fall scrapbook is a wonderful way to personalize what this season means to you. To create a fall scrapbook you may need to start planning pictures that … Continue reading

Think Pink for Home Decor

Are you wondering what the latest hot thing in home decorating is? Well get ready to think pink. Pink is a color that is showing up everywhere. Home decor sometimes takes its cue from fashion, and I think this is the case here with pink. For example, there is a new Rolex watch that features an etched pink face. In home decor, you’ll find the pink in many different places, mostly as an accent color. This is just in time for the upcoming Valentine’s Day. The shade of pink that is currently hot ranges from a rosy, silvery pink to … Continue reading

Soft Fall Colors for the Home

This fall season, the colors for home are soft, warm and fresh. Here is a guide to what is really in style this season for your home. Preserving Fall Leaves

Fall leaves have such marvelous deep colors. I love to decorate with leaves. They quickly dry out though, and turn brown and brittle. Here’s a way to make them last for a long time. You will need a hammer or rock, a large empty jar or vase, hot water, and glycerin. You can usually find glycerin at the drug store near the lotions. It’s only a few dollars for a small bottle. Gather leaves that are in the height of their color. It’s fun to take a walk around the yard or a park. Let your children pick up leaves … Continue reading

Let There Be Light

If it were a crime to be eating leftover Halloween candy in late November, I’d be in jail right now. There’s something not quite right about stuffing your face with Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins while stringing up Christmas lights. Which is why I did the former rather than the latter today. Apparently, I was the only one. It seems all my neighbors were on the same page this weekend: “Let’s add some holiday twinkle to our homes while Michele polishes off her kid’s Halloween treats.” Mission accomplished. On both fronts. Listen, I’m all about decking the halls, but my family … Continue reading

Learning to Mix and Match

When it comes to designing scrapbook layouts, I tend to play it safe. I am not over-the-top matchy-matchy; however, I don’t take a ton of risks either. I stick with shades that are close together on the color wheel and I don’t stray too far from traditional shapes, sizes, patterns, and paper types. My goal for this holiday season is to be a bit bolder in my page designs. My local scrapbooking supply shop maintains that orange is going to be the “hot” color for 2013. The shop’s owner just returned from a huge scrapbooking convention where gray was proclaimed … Continue reading

Apple Season Activites

It’s apple season! September is a wonderful month filled with images of cool days, apple cider and playing in the leaves. For my family it is apple picking season. We normally go at least once a season but this season we lucked out! My daughter has volleyball practice near an apple orchard so my other children and I will be visiting the orchard a few more times this year. I think the donuts and cider are my son’s favorite part. My daughter’s love to munch on the apples and go home to make apple pie. Apple orchards make lovely teaching … Continue reading
