Some Unexpected Household Hintsby Marjorie Dorfman | More from this Blogger 21 Nov 2006 08:07 AM
Graham Haley attacks dirt as if it was the bubonic plague, and he and his wife offer many strategies for effective house cleaning. Pay close attention, for the dust mites in your home have already received word that reinforcements will not be arriving and are preparing to defend their ground. 1. Stay alert for dirt is Haley's foremost cleaning strategy. Money is wasted if things are not clean. (Are you alert now?) Yes, my friends, according to Haley, dirty carpets last half as long, walls end up having to be re-painted and even light bulbs have been known to lose their efficiency and brightness if they're dusty. (It is not known how dust affects human longevity. Perhaps I can find that out in still another book.) 2. Tidy before tackling. An uncluttered area is much easier to clean, so says the cleaning guru who surely cleans his own house for the maid before he or she arrives. 3. Be careful with homemade cleaning recipes. Always read any warnings on the label of the individual ingredients that you are using. Try to take the time to transfer those warnings onto your personal container. Be extra careful and always keep cleaning containers away from children or pets. (Nasty neighbors, relatives and bill collectors are another story.) 4. Don't get stuck in a corner. When cleaning floors, don't end up like that old "plan ahead" sign with the "d" on the next line. Plan to end up in a doorway (hopefully, your own), so that you don't track footprints onto the damp floor and make more work for yourself. Stay tuned for more cleaning tips from the master and try to have a good time.
