Spending the Day After Thanksgiving

I have to admit that this day is all about us. It is one of the rare days that we can spend as a family, doing whatever we want to do. There are some things we choose to do as individuals, and some things we choose to do as a family. Here is how we will be spending the day.

I also admit that I was inspired to write this post by Sherry's post on how she was spending her Black Friday. In her post, she talked about enjoying leftovers and relaxing. While our family will be a little busier, it will be a fun kind of busy, and part of the way we will focus on our family.

Let me start with the beginning of the day. We turned the leftover cornbread and buttermilk biscuits to a casual breakfast while we watched the Today show. As I write this, my husband is working on a heartier breakfast of eggs and leftover ham (doesn't every family have a second breakfast on Black Friday?) while my eldest son asks to play video games. Normally, we frown upon this, and only dust off the ancient Nintendo 64 on special occasions. The little ones are running around the house with the toys spread out all over and no nagging mom asking them to pick them up.

After breakfast, we will venture into one, just one retail store, because we need light bulbs, and because my husband wants to see just how good we have it by not shopping. I debated on doing some Black Friday shopping, since some of the deals were so good, but in the end, our new plans sounded like a much better idea to us.

After the errand, we are heading over to a large historical botanical garden to ring in the holidays with fountains shows, light shows, strolling carolers, an ice skating show and an indoor children's garden. If we do buy anything else this day, it may be a hot cocoa or a decadent desert.

How are you spending your Black Friday?

Sounds like a nice relaxing day. We didn't do much either. I posted our day on my blog. The week before Christmas I plan on visiting this beautiful botanical garden as well. Laura
