Getting Ready For Yard Work

It’s time for yard work and if you haven’t already, it’s time to drag out the lawn and garden tools. Now if you are like most people all of your yard equipment was carefully cleaned and prepped before it was stored away for the winter. If you are like me, you thought you had one more weekend to get to the chore. Then the cold and snow came and, if you are like me, you quickly shoved everything in the shed and locked the door. Now you have to open that door and deal with the mess. I find it’s … Continue reading

Putting Some Spring In Your House

When the weather starts getting warm I start getting that spring cleaning/home improvement madness that will plague me until September. Cleaning my house is not enough, I want a change, and I want it to be a noticeable change. The easiest way to make a change is to paint a room. I love to paint, wait, no I don’t. I think I love to paint until I start moving furniture and taping the room off and then I remember I don’t like it but I’ve already bought the paint. By that time I’m already into it and really, once all … Continue reading

Getting Ready For A Yard Sale

Have you been spring cleaning? Are you finding a houseful of things that you no longer need? Now is the perfect time to start planning that spring yard sale. Every year my subdivision has a community yard sale, it’s a great time to get rid of things I don’t need and make a little extra money. A little preparation now will make sure you are ready when the time comes for the big sale. As you are cleaning closets and dresser drawers, take out anything that is too small, out of style, or you just don’t like anymore. This goes … Continue reading

Spring Cleaning – Part 1

It’s that time already…spring cleaning is on the minds of many. Although I am more about the fall cleaning, I have decided to make this a twice-a-year event. This means deep cleaning and organizing in preparation for the warmer months. This week we had one of those rare warm days we get in Wisconsin when it’s still March. It was in the lower 60’s and I was able to open my patio door. There is just nothing like fresh air when your house has been closed up all winter long. That’s what kind of kicked it off in my mind … Continue reading

Itching For Spring

We have had such a mild winter that I’m already in spring cleaning mode. The fact that my daughter is getting married in May and we are having a bridal shower at my house in April may have something to do with it. Because I’m a procrastinator I spent some time on the internet looking for the fastest and easiest ways to deep clean my house. There were no magic tricks available but there was lots of advice. The first thing I read is when you set out to do a deep clean, make sure that is what you are … Continue reading

Spring Outdoor Chores

My spring cleaning list seems to grow by the day. Whereas I’ve tackled some indoor projects, my list of outdoor chores barely has a dent in it. Of course, with more than a foot of snow still blanketing the yard, it’s hard to accomplish much work out there. However, once the snow starts to melt I will be able to give my air conditioning unit a good cleaning. Condenser cleaning is not something you have to do on a monthly basis, but it certainly is a task you should tackle seasonally. Each spring head outdoors and remove any leaves, dirt … Continue reading

Fall Closet Cleaning

I love cleaning closets. I just hate how long it takes. Last week I spent five hours cleaning out my young daughter’s closet. Granted, I hadn’t been in there to thoroughly clean and organize since late spring when I packed away her winter gear and got out her summer outfits. Still, five hours was much longer than I had anticipated the job would take, and it gave me incentive to tackle the chore on a regular basis rather than reserve it for fall and spring only. There are many advantages to cleaning and organizing a closet regularly. For starters, it … Continue reading

Getting Your Home Ready for Summer Vacation

It seems that summer is always ready before I am. I still haven’t finished all of the spring cleaning before everyone gears up for the summer activities. Even though my oldest child will be in school for almost another month, there are already evening summer activities lined up, such as music concerts on the lawn and summer barbecue parties. As the mom, I will be expected to host everything from backyard camp outs to worm gardens, all while smiling in my matching short set and carrying a cool pitcher of lemonade. Forget the fact that there is still insulating plastic … Continue reading

Springtime Dieting Rush

Is it the panic that sets in that prompts more people to diet in the spring because we know that we will be wearing less? As soon as March rolls around the bathing suits are coming out on the racks in the store. Shorts start to appear, sandals, suntan lotion. I walk through the store and I feel an instant panic. Do not fear. There is time, but you have to get moving. You can lose about 20 or so pounds before June if you start now. Find a good dieting plan that you are comfortable with. You should also … Continue reading

Good Ideas from Good Housekeeping

It is spring, and as you might have been able to tell from my recent blog posts, I am so ready to be done with winter and to get my home into shape. I have been perusing some household tips from older magazines that I bought in bulk at our local library (only $1 for a lot), and pulling out anything that seemed useful. I have some tips from the magazine, Good Housekeeping that I thought were especially useful for this time of year. I am remembering them off of the top of my head, plus embellishing the tips to … Continue reading
