Storing Linen in a Small Spaceby Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger 10 Jan 2008 12:05 PM "The Leaning Tower of Bedding." That is what I call the insides of our linen closet. Can you guess why? Back in our old home, we were blessed with tons of closet space. Each bedroom had one or more walk in closets, and there were additional closets in the upstairs hall, a walk in cedar closet and two very large linen closets. Those linen closets could hold our entire collection of sheets and towels for every member of our five-person family, plus extras for guests, pillows, comforter and blankets. And yea, I even stored my stockpile of health and beauty products as well. Our current linen closet is comparably anemic. It is about the width of an average size person and only a little taller. A few shelves, consisting of pieces of wood, are installed, and on these I must store our bedding and towels. Naturally, I have had to cut back on some of our abundance, and find some create ways of storing thing. I started first with the towels, trying different ways of folding and rolling them to make them fit. I have dedicated two of the shelves for our towels, wash clothes and hand towels, and have found that rolling the bath towels first before storing keeps them stuffed neatly on the shelves. The sheets are a little tougher to master. Because they now have to be crammed on top of each other, having everything organized is very important. I don't want sheets and pillow cases tumbling down and then stuffed back in the closet in a heap. After folding the sheets, I place each set (and an extra pillow cases) into its matching pillow case for storage. Everything that is needed to change the sheets is now together in one neat little package, so there is no scrambling for matching pieces, making it very convenient to store and retrieve from a small space.
