The Case of the Missing Earring

diamond What happened to that little diamond earring? Was it gremlins or a thief who stole it away in the middle of the night?

This is a three-part series. Although it concerns the events of mostly one day, the story is divided into three. You can only get so much of a good thing at one time. Plus, I like threes. I hope you will come back each day to read it all.

Nothing can transform your house into chaos than turning it upside down looking for one little diamond earring. Today was supposed to be a day to catch up on writing work and give the house a good once over before the in-laws arrive tomorrow. Instead, our home is nothing short of a disaster, as I have been putting all of my effort into trying to find a precious possession, one of my diamond earrings, the only pair of fancy earrings that I own. Although the earrings aren't very large, they are so special to me, given to me by my husband a few years ago, even though we are in a practical (frugal) way of living and have to look to spending money on other things such as water pumps and groceries.

The upside down of our home began last night. I slipped into bed and noticed a gold earring back laying on top of the comforter. Uh. Oh. I immediate went to the little box on our headboard where my earrings were. I had taken them off one night after a very long weekend that had culminated in taking the extended family photograph.

The earring really should have gone in the safe, but both myself and my husband were too tired to go find the combination and then wrestle with the picky lock. I can never get the darn thing open myself.

Fast forward to yesterday morning when two little gremlins that happen to live with us decided to sneak into the bedroom looking for interesting things to find. Yup, they found the box and wanted to know what was inside.

Continued tomorrow.
