The Case of the Missing Earring 3by Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger 14 Dec 2008 05:14 PM
I moved the bed and examined the floor again in daylight. Nothing. Finally I did the old pantyhose vacuum trick. I sacrificed a stocking in my efforts. The gremlins, having the stocking draw called to attention decided to explore that as well, turning stocking and pantyhose into rope for tug-of-war. Yes, it really was that kind of day. Placing a stocking over the end of the vacuum hose, I got back down on my hands and knees to vacuum the floor bit by bit. If the earring was there, presumably, the vacuum would find it, and the hose would prevent it from being sucked up. This was also a good time to get all of those dust bunnies that hide behind furniture and in the crevices of the baseboard heating system. I vacuumed the entire bedroom, on my hands and knees. The hose trick was successful, at least in finding two silver screws, one white lego and some mysterious melted thing that might have been a candle or a crayon. No earring. The missing earring is driving me so crazy that I think I am losing my ability to be logical. Yes, I searched for it in the shoes, the bathroom rug and even the lamp. Now, I am off to put my house back together again. The bed needs to be made, the bedroom furniture must be moved back and the rest of the house needs to be shoveled out. If anyone has any suggestions for locating this earring please let me know. My house can't take much more. Even work! Try to enlist the help of the kids. Make it into a huge deal, a game! Make it sound like they're on a wild safari adventure, yadda, yadda, yadda. Go for it and embellish as much as it takes to get the kids involved. Maybe even offer them a reasonable reward for finding the earring, or at least, for trying. Weave in a lesson of not messing with stuff that isn't yours, but don't make it sound like a big lecture or sermon. Make the lesson part of the fun. Even if the earring is never found, perhaps this excursion to find it will stick with the kids in a positive way, and lead to other beneficial happenings. You know how kids come up with the darndest things! :-) And sometimes, they're so awesomely thoughtful and caring, you wonder, "WHAT was I worried about??" LOL Good luck, Mrs. Author Lady! :-) Mary Ann Romans (26886) 16 Dec 2008 08:27 AMThanks for the encouragement. I am pretty upset about the loss of the earring, but I know that in the grand scheme of things it isn't that bad. Tashi (1013) 16 Dec 2008 07:36 PMIf it makes you feel any better, a couple of years ago, Jesus fell off of the rosary that I keep on my car's rear view mirror. Haven't found Him yet. :-( Bums me out, because it was a very special rosary I got in New York City. But like you said, in the grand scheme of things, it's not so bad. Maybe a mouse is grateful he found your earring, as he really needed it to hold his front door shut, keeping out the ccccold winter air. :-) Mary Ann Romans (26886) 17 Dec 2008 12:00 PMHey wait! Are you implying that there is a mouse in my house? Community Tags earrings, home, jewelry, when you lose something Discuss this article
