The Color of Comfort, Part IIby Sherry Holetzky | More from this Blogger 12 Oct 2007 09:29 AM Picking up where we left off yesterday in our discussion of comfort colors, I have a few more to share. Does your favorite color resemble your favorite comfort food? Yellow Yellow is another hot color, depending on the shade. It makes me think of sunshine and lemony fresh scents, such as lemon zest, a wedge of fresh lemon in a tall, cold glass of iced tea, or lemon pie. There are many variations of yellow from pale to bright to more muted golden tones. Golden saffron is a nice, rich color, much like its expensive namesake. Purple Eggplant Parmesan is the first food that comes to mind when I think of purple. Imagine a rich, hearty, satisfying, homemade meal with eggplant fresh from the garden and sauce that has been lovingly simmered and stirred all day. Cream Yes, neutrals count too. When I say cream, I am referring to white, off whites, and subtle tones of beige. While some people find these colors boring in home décor, it really depends on how they are used. Think decadence. Think creamy sauces, creamy soups, and of course, rich, white chocolate. Brown Speaking of chocolate, brown is a great color for adding impact and giving a room a rich feel. It can be very decadent, much like chocolate, when used in the right space. Remember, that like chocolate, too much of a good thing isn't so good. Deep browns should be used sparingly in smaller spaces. Use of Comfort Colors Of course, where you use various comfort colors makes a difference in how these colors translate. Soothing colors work best in areas intended for rest and relaxation, while colors that represent heat and excitement work well in areas of the home where we are playful. Taking the heat down a bit, warm colors work well in the areas we use for entertaining. Learn more about Sherry Holetzky Sherry Holetzky is a work at home mom and freelance writer.
