Airing Your Dirty Laundry

Despite my love for Facebook and the fact that I allow my teens to partake, there are definitely times when the spotlight shines on the downside. Take for instance when a teenager decides to air their dirty laundry. Thankfully my teens are respectful enough (or maybe it’s just that they are smart enough to know better) to not say negative things about me on Facebook. I don’t care if they think I’m being unfair or that I don’t know what I’m talking about; voicing these opinions on social media is a no-no. I’m also glad they don’t share with the … Continue reading

Let Them Get Dirty

We all want to do everything we can to keep our children from getting sick. We feel terrible for them, it’s no fun to be sick. When you are a single parent, a sick child can become a major issue, there is no one else to share the burden of missed time from work, and if you don’t have the sick leave to take, it can mean missing work without pay. So we fill our homes with everything we can find to stave off illness. Soaps, toothpaste and other personal hygiene items can be bought with anti bacterial agents. I … Continue reading

Keep That Car Shining

It’s time to clean my car again. I’m always amazed at how messy it gets, inside and out. I don’t really think about the cleanliness of my car, I just need it to get me from point A to point B, so by the time I get around to cleaning it, it’s usually pretty bad. I like going to the car wash. I will go through the drive through one in the winter but when the weather is nice I like to use the do it yourself ones. Before I take the car to the car wash I get rid … Continue reading

More Dirty Jobs

The spring cleaning is finally done so why are there still messy jobs that need to be done? There are some things in every house that don’t get done very often, either because we don’t think aobut them or because we think it is going to be too much work. Now that your house is sparkling from all the spring cleaning, lets get those little jobs out of the way. Are your light fixtures a bug graveyard? Even when I think there are no bugs in my house, somehow there are dead ones in the light fixture. This really doesn’t … Continue reading

Keeping The Car Clean

If you were to look inside my car you would think that this past winter lasted about five years. It looks like it’s been that long since I cleaned it. It hasn’t really but everything is so dirty. It’s time to take it to the car wash and then detail the inside. I’m always amazed at how dirty the console gets. I think every drop of water or coffee that pops out of my drink rolls around in the dirt before landing the car, then it invites more dirt to come visit. Needless to say the console needs a good … Continue reading

Budget Should Not Be A Dirty Word

I have been pretty fortunate as a single mother. Most of the time I’ve been single I’ve had a good job that has allowed me not to worry about how I was going to pay the bills. It wasn’t like that at first, when I first got divorced I didn’t even have a car, but things got better. Now, due to some pay cuts I’ve taken at work, things are looking a little scarier. Add to that a few emergencies, a major vet bill and an emergency car repair, and my savings account is non existent. Not having that cushion … Continue reading

Are Your Shoes Making Your Home Dirty?

Do you know how most dirt and contaminants get into your home? You carry them in on your shoes. Think about all the places you walk in a normal day. When you cross a street all the road dirt from car exhaust, oil, other leaking engine fluids and whatever is on peoples tires get on your shoes. Walking down the side walk you may walk through dog urine, dried vomit, spilled food and drinks, among other things. When you walk across grass you shoes pick up whatever pesticides and fertilizers were used to keep that grass green and lush. Then … Continue reading

That New Car Smell

It’s been so warm here lately and every day I see people at the car wash, I really should wash my car as well, maybe tomorrow. My car is a mess, I’m not very good about making sure it gets washed in the winter. Having a clean car is probably even more important in the winter, all the wet weather and road dirt gets on your windows and once the sun hits them you can’t see a thing. I took my car through the car wash, even though it’s been warm, it’s not warm enough to go to a self … Continue reading

The Dirty Car

Today I’d like to get a little outside the home. I’d like to talk about my turtle shell, my roving home, my car. My car lives in the garage when it’s not taking me where I need to go. My car is a part of my home by extension. We leased the Light Sage Metallic Ford Escape in March, 2008. I really wanted the car in Kiwi Green Metallic, but the color was obnoxious on the lot. The color looked the way I anticipated it on the hybrid model, but we weren’t buying that. This has been a nice little … Continue reading

Down and Dirty Debt Plan

Do you want to get out of debt? Follow this simple but powerful plan, and your finances will be in a much better place in just six months. 1. Stop using credit. This includes credit cards, paying on time, loans, etc. Just don’t do it. People spend more money when they use credit instead of cash, and there is all of that interest that compounds. 2. Sit down with your spouse or another trusted person to whom you can be accountable. Announce your plans to get out of debt and make a commitment to meet at least once a month … Continue reading
