Picking Pumpkins Part II

After a thirty minute drive in the glorious autumn weather, surrounded by the beauty of fall, we arrived at our destination: The Orchard and Pumpkin Patch. My two children, my little sister, and I met my other sister (she is of course my little sister’s older sister too), her husband, and their daughter. The orchard was very busy with only a week to go before Halloween and subsequently “Beggars Night” (something we do not celebrate with trick or treating). There were lots of children with their parents scoping out the pumpkin patch. After I got the stroller out of the … Continue reading

Three Little Pumpkins

Sitting outside in the rain are two little pumpkins. They aren’t quite sitting on a fence, but they are pretty close to one. They shine in the moonlight and declare the Fall. My two older children decorated them with tempera paint, swirls of color that has now washed clean. The purples and browns and blues and yellows and reds are no more; the pumpkins are back to their natural clean orange state, and I get the sense that it is just mother nature washing off her makeup. Like any good mother though, she’ll put up with a little mess, and … Continue reading

Answer: Sweaty Pumpkins and Sandy Kids

Question: What do you get when you take a family trip to the pumpkin patch on a sunny and muggy 88-degree day? No, we weren’t in Hawaii visiting my parents. (F.Y.I. There is only one pumpkin patch in the entire state of Hawaii and it’s not located on the island my parents reside.) We were picking pumpkins in Wisconsin. You know, the place where temps this time of year hover around 50 degrees. It was a record breaking warm day and a picking adventure I won’t soon forget. (Sound familiar?) Rather than regal you with a litany of anecdotes about … Continue reading
