Common Sense Tips To Capturing Frame-Worthy Pictures

My last blog entry while helpful (to some) was done a bit tongue-in-cheek. Let’s face it; every person wielding a camera is looking for that one great shot to admire for years to come. Whether it’s a brilliant Hawaiian sunset or your child’s first smile. Pictures are the closest way any of us comes to freezing time. So what can you do to make sure you don’t squander these precious moments? Here are some tips: Stand Still (My blog title didn’t lie–I told you these were common sense tips.) If you are taking a shot of your child planting her … Continue reading

Tips On How To Warm Up Your Home Without Touching The Thermostat

Today is the first day in more than a week that the mercury rose above 10 degrees Fahrenheit. For days we have been dealing with sub zero temperatures and wind chill readings around minus 35 degrees. It is unbearably cold and according to our crack team of local meteorologists, it doesn’t look like we will be warming up anytime soon. I won’t even tell you what I have my thermostat set at (let’s just say when I look at the display window all I see are $$$$). As a result, I’m trying to find alternative ways of making our home … Continue reading

More Paint Tips

Yesterday, I posted a couple of blogs regarding painting your home’s interior and exterior. I also listed a few popular color choices. Today my sister-in-law (our resident interior designer) called to tell me she read the blogs and had a few more ideas. I often defer to her suggestions so this phone call was not at all unusual. According to my lovely sister-in-law, “Eco-Luxe” is another hot color palette this year. As its name suggests the colors reflect all that is natural. The colors include Wildwood Stables, Giant Sequoia, Spruce Hollow, Water Fowl, Timbermine, Woonsocket Bronze and Bulldog. The colors … Continue reading

Popular Paint Choices

Recently I wrote several blogs about getting your home in shape for the New Year. I also revealed that one of my New Year’s resolutions is to experiment with different wall colors. (Hence this blog about paint.) If you are looking to spruce up your home this year you may want to consider a paint job. After all, one of the easiest and least expensive ways to give a room a new look is with paint. According to the research I have done, there are several color themes for 2007 that are outshining the competition. I tend to be a … Continue reading

Tips For Picking Paint

I’m a real chicken when it comes to picking a specific paint color. Yes, I realize that if I don’t like the end result I can always paint over it. But, I dread the thought of expending so much time, energy, and money to paint a room only to dislike the end product. According to the experts I have consulted (in a previous blog I shared my goal for 2007—-update several rooms via new paint), most consumers are much more color confident and much more open to experiment with color, especially on the exterior of their homes. Of course this … Continue reading

Home Decorating Tips: Walls

In a previous blog I wrote about my tour of our local Builders Association’s Parade of Homes. The following are some trends and ideas I learned and thought I would pass along to you. If you decide to apply any to your own home, please feel free to let me know how it turned out. In my last blog I wrote that the Home Builders Association’s spokesperson I spoke to insisted … Continue reading

Care of Your Floors

We have tackled a couple of housekeeping tips in our living areas but will end with the care of floors. Some living areas are carpeted and some have hardwood floors. So the type of care you give to your floors will depend on this. I only have hardwood floors, with just a couple of rooms in my entire house being carpeted. So I don’t do much with vacuuming and when I do, I use a fairly common type of vacuum. From what I understand however, the dream machine to own if you have carpeting is a Dyson. All you Dyson … Continue reading

The Garage or Yard Sale

For many people the best way of getting rid of things they no longer want is a garage or yard sale. In the area where we live it is a favorite pastime. We have friends who regularly go to garage sales in the hope of picking up a bargain. It’s something we have done in the past. Now we can’t be bothered. But many people find them an enjoyable way to spend weekend time and others a useful way to make a bit of money on unwanted goods. Once when we were moving we held a garage sale. We did … Continue reading
