Top Ten Resources for Charitable Giving, Part II

Here are seven more excellent resources, continued from Part I.

4. Operation Christmas Child

This organization offers you a way to send a gift as well as the message of Jesus to children in need overseas. You simply fill a shoebox with goodies, gifts, supplies, your message, and your gift will be sent.

5. Groups for our Troops

Speaking of overseas, please see "Don't Forget the Troops during the Holidays" for links to three well-regarded groups that help provide care packages to our troops. Please note that packages do take a while to reach distant destinations, so you'll need to act soon if you'd like to get something to a soldier or unit near Christmastime.

6. My Two Front Teeth

This group locates less fortunate children through community agencies and creates profiles for these kids. Contributors may then go online and become a sponsor to make a child's Christmas wish come true.

7. Find Local Charities

Search local charities and find out more about those in your area. If you have a certain one in mind, you can research it, or you can search by location to find an organization near you that you would like to assist.

8. Angel Tree

You may have seen other gift trees called Angel Trees, but this is a specific ministry to provide gifts as well as love and comfort to children whose parents are in prison. This organization also shares the gospel with children and local churches frequently host Christmas parties for kids and family members or friends.

9. Toys for Tots

This group collects new, unwrapped toys locally to give to children in the community. You may see Toys for Tots collection centers around your area, or you can check out the site for locations. This program helps brings smiles to children who otherwise might not receive any toys for Christmas.

10. Churches

Churches hope to share the love of God with others. They are great resources for giving to those in need. Many churches sponsor special programs, drives, or collections for needy people within the community as well as around the world. If you are unsure of what you're church is doing, don't hesitate to ask. If you are not a member of a church, they would still appreciate your assistance or donations. Most churches can be found in the yellow pages of your local phone book.

*Also check with local schools, clubs, and your favorite retailers to inquire about drop boxers for their own gift/food/clothing drives or other holiday charity events. Help spread the cheer!
