Tour the HGTV Dream Home

Want to know how the other half lives? Okay, so maybe it is really the other 2 percent. With HGTV's Dream Home for 2008, you can not only dream of the perfect home, but dream big. That is because, along with taking a virtual tour this custom built, furnished and decorated home, you could be lucky enough to own it.

I have been following the HGTV dream homes for a few years now. Every year I droll over these home and faithfully enter the contest for a chance to win. Of course, it is never me. I guess I could consider that a blessing. Most of the people who do win wind up selling their dream homes because the taxes and upkeep are much more than they could afford. Still, that didn't deter me from trying.

This coming year's dream home is located in the Florida Keys, set near the Florida Bay. Hmm, not a bad place to think about, as I sit here during winter.

The home, which contains three floors of living space, has all of the accouterments you could want. From large screen televisions to a fishing closet and an outdoor shower. And oh yes, for your pampered pooch, there is the standard Doggy Dream Home that comes with every year's offering.

There is a breakfast nook on the third floor, just in case you can't make it all the way downstairs to the kitchen. Hmm, one must assume that servants come with this home? The master bathroom alone would take me all day to clean. (If you view that room before January 1st, you will see it in stark white. They won't be revealing the color of the master bathroom until next year).

There is something about this house that doesn't impress me all of that much. Perhaps it is because I haven't yet gotten over my bitter disappointment of not winning the Colorado home. Or perhaps it is the coral-colored walls and creepy looking urns that pop up everywhere. And why would they put the kids' bedrooms on the first floor, unless that it also where the nanny sleeps?
