Test Your Driving Mettle at Epcot’s Test Track

Disney World sure is the park for auto buffs. First it has the already-profiled Richard Petty Driving Experience, and it also contains Epcot’s Test Track. I guess Disneyland might start to compete a bit with Cars Land, but until we know more about that attraction it’ll be hard to tell. An amusement park might not be a car nut’s ideal vacation, but if they’re already there for other reasons, at least they’ll have more to do than at another park. I almost profiled Test Track as another Fun for Grown-Ups at Disney feature, but kids 7 and older are allowed … Continue reading

Healthy Holidays: Guest Precautions

One of the ways that you can make your guests welcomed into your home is to provide for their needs. Some needs are obvious, such as clean towels and enough to eat, while others may not be so obvious, such as ensuring that everyone stays safe. Here are some safety precautions that you can take right now to make sure that you and your guests stay safe this holiday season. For older guests Make sure that the path from the guest bedroom to the guest bathroom is clear and well lit, even at night. Consider adding a small night light … Continue reading

Disney Cruises Update

Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island and one of your destinations on cruises with the Dream Exactly one year ago I first introduced you to the Disney Dream, Disney’s newest state-of-the-art cruise ship. With the Dream scheduled to make its maiden voyage at the end of January, many new details about the ship have been announced in anticipation of this event. Poking around on the official website for the Dream reveals much of that information. The Dream includes two theaters, the Buena Vista and the Walt Disney, which are a cinema and live performance theater, respectively. The Buena Vista screens first-run … Continue reading

Shape up Your Guest Room in No Time

We’re running out of time before Thanksgiving. There may be no time left to paint or do other projects you had hoped to complete. That’s okay, because there are some quick, simple, affordable ways to get the guest room looking great and you can use these ideas at holidays or any time. First, check into a reversible comforter set, duvet cover, or one of those “bed in a bag” deals. By changing the bedding, thus treating what is generally the focal point in any bedroom, you’ll make an impact quickly. There are some terrific and affordable options, and if you … Continue reading

Update Your Guest Room

Why wait until you’re in the middle of holiday preparations to start getting ready for guests? Now is a great time to update the guest room, before things get too crazy. If you do a few projects yourself, you can save some money while transforming the guest room. Also, take care not to overlook existing items. Some things you already have may work well in that space, if given a little love. If the bed in your guest room is outdated, consider redoing the headboard. If the piece just isn’t something you can work with, consider removing the headboard (and … Continue reading

Getting the Guest Room Ready for Guests

You’ll often hear that each room should have a separate function, and that makes sense if you have plenty of space. However, if your guest room does double duty, say as a home office, you can still make it into a comfortable space for company. By making the guest area the focus of the room, your guests won’t feel like they’re sleeping in your office. Stand in the doorway of the guest room and see what you notice first (a tried and true trick for discovering focal points). If it doesn’t look like a guest room from the entrance, a … Continue reading

Celebrity Updates: Making It Work

I may be jumping the gun a bit by saying that anything is working right in Lindsay Lohan’s life, but at the very least the likely-to-be-incarcerated actress has removed herself from a toxic environment—Hollywood. According to the latest reports, the 21-year-old has moved back in with her mom Dina in Long Island, New York… at least temporarily. There’s still no word on where the actress has been staying since her July 24 arrest for DUI, driving with a suspended license and drug possession. But, according to the New York Post, Lilo flew first class to Kennedy airport with her younger … Continue reading

The Education Blog in Review: Nov. 6 through Nov. 19

Since our great education blogger, Kaye Siders, left us at the end of October, the Education blog has been missing some reviews. The day before yesterday, I had written the first Education in review since the end of October. Make sure you check those out if you need to catch up! Thanks to Sherry Holetsky who told us about Edline in Does Your Child’s School Offer Edline? I didn’t know about it, and like she points out, it sounds like a great way to keep on top of your child’s progress. Myra Turner talked to us a little about Kindergartners … Continue reading

Insurance Blog Week In Review November 14-20, 2006

It seems like the right time for the Insurance Blog “week in review” to kick off! For me insurance has been like gum stuck on the bottom of my shoe, I started insurance in 1982 when I was 19-years-old. When I started there were no computers, agents rated manually–with paper, pencil and calculators. I was able to see how each policyholders rate was calculated, and why everything actually made a difference. My first job with insurance was a wonderful experience, I worked with a man who was an ex-motorcycle “member?”–gone right. When I gave birth to my oldest child, my … Continue reading
