Want Free Flowers?

Do you want free flowers for your garden? This year we grew sweet peas and it cost us nothing. We grew our own sweet peas from seeds harvested from our own plants.

Last spring we had an amazing display of sweet peas. Instead of being in a rush to take them down once they finished flowering, we allowed them to go to seed. Suddenly we had brown pods appearing everywhere. We picked a number of these pods. Far from all of them as they were prolific.

The advantage was we were able to pick the colors we liked most. So that meant, lots of the red, blues and purples and pinks. Any white had already been taken out.

Mick then stored them in a paper bag in the shed till this year. Of course wherever you keep them has to be kept dry.

Then when it came fall and time to plant, we split open the pods and planted the seeds in the ground. We were not really sure they'd grow but figured what did we have to lose? This spring we've had an amazing display of color twining up the wire in our back yard and around the compost heap.

Sweet peas are perhaps my favorite flower. For their colors all those gorgeous purple, blue and pink shades I love and for their perfume

The house has been filled with the perfume of sweet peas, since I'm a person who love to see them flower in the garden but also adore flowers in the house. Who needs air fresheners when there are sweet peas around? They have a much more natural and a nicer perfume.

This year we will harvest our seeds again. Only this time we won't be just using them just ourselves. We have several lots of friends who have asked for some sweet pea seeds. They'll still be plenty for them and us and still lots left over. We anticipate we'll never have to buy sweet peas again and neither will our friends.
