What is a Green Cleaning Party?

flower Green cleaning parties are becoming more and more popular as families are concerned with bring toxic chemicals into their home. More and more information is being released about how chemicals in common cleaners can affect everything from asthma to reproductive health.

If you are familiar with frugal living, you may also be familiar with using homemade cleaners made from baking soda, vinegar and even olive oil. But what you may not know is that while these homemade cleaners save you money, they may also save your health. Using natural ingredients are the safest way to clean your home.

Instead of gathering for a tupperware party or to purchase kitchen items, people are getting together to mix up their own green cleaners. You can create laundry detergent, furniture polish, toilet cleaner, soft scrub and so much more. Having a party to create your cleaners can be a lot of fun and a good excuse to have a social gathering.

Choose some friends to invite and send out invitations. You can do this online, by mail or by word of mouth. To take care of the equipment and ingredients, you could purchase everything in advance and then ask everyone to split the cost, or you could ask each person to purchase a specific item. I like the former arrangement, since you won't have anything missing if someone cannot make the party at the last minute. You could also just take turns to host, with the host purchasing all of the materials for that session.

To have a green cleaning party, you'll need glass containers (plastics often contain chemicals), mixing utensils and the basic ingredients. There is a great website that can help you host a green cleaning party in your home. It offers recipes, labels and more. Check it out at http://womenandenvironment.org
