Whimsical Touches for Plain Bedding & Fabricsby Sherry Holetzky | More from this Blogger 15 Sep 2006 05:36 AM If you had to choose solid colored bedding in order to get the right color, or if you are incorporating hand me down bedding into a younger child's room, you don't have to settle for plain, solid bedding or other fabric treatments. There are some really simple ways to dress up plain or existing treatments to give them new life and to add some fun, whimsical touches. Novelty Buttons Check out a local fabric store, craft store or notions section and look at all the cool buttons. They do cost a little more than typical buttons, but there are some adorable options available. From ladybugs and dragon flies to sports, dance, and pet themes, you can find all kinds of cool styles. There are pretty jeweled buttons, great big, brightly colored buttons, and plenty of whimsical designs to help you make the most of plain bedding and fabrics. Sew a few onto a pillow or blanket for a completely new look. Patches and Appliqués Create a pattern or apply cute patches and appliqués in a random fashion to give plain fabrics and treatments more style. This is also a good way to pull in some other colors or to continue a theme. If you're doing a sports theme room, for example, some little baseball or football appliqués will help make curtains, valances, blankets, or comforters look and feel more custom. Lace, Trim, or Beads You can find some gorgeous trims and embellishments these days, and you'll only need a few yards to customize your fabric treatments. Add lace or trim to the ends of pillowcases and at the cuff of the flat sheet. Add trims around the edges of accent pillows, blankets, or comforters or sew on pretty beads randomly. Try both! You can also find lace in floral patterns, ruffles, or simple designs, and there is a huge selection of colors available. Get creative and take those treatments from plain and boring to fun and whimsical in no time! Other articles that might be of interest: Costume Jewelry in Home Décor?
