Your New Home: A Few Decorating Tips

Moving into a new home is so exciting. You get a fresh start in making a house into the perfect, cozy home for you and your family. While there are too many positive things to about moving into a new home to list them all here, one minor drawback might be not having the money to buy all the new furnishings and accessories you'd like to have as you begin decorating. That's okay. There are some tips you can use to fill in those empty spaces and help your new home look a little more lived in.

Go Green

First, add some plants or some prints that contain greenery or floral images. This will inject some life into any space and make it feel homier. Live plants are best, but artificial greenery or botanical prints will work in a pinch, or you take photos of greenery and frame the images yourself. Potted plants or bowls filled with floating flowers or candles also work great for filling empty space.

Plain White Walls

Get some color on those walls either with paint or with some simple artwork. Paint a focal wall or a mural. You can even create your own artwork to add some interest and liven up your walls. Put up some type of window treatment, no matter how simple, to break up wall space.

Adding Warmth

Warmth is one of the key elements to making your new house feel like home. You want to choose artwork that is relaxing and colors that are soothing. You want to add softness and comfort. Don't leave hard floors bare. Add an accent rug and toss a throw on the sofa. Unpack a few books. Arrange some candles on an empty surface. It doesn't take a lot to inject a sense of warmth. It only requires a few comforting touches to get rid of that "hotel room" feel and make it feel more like home.
